Frequently Asked Questions

What should I bring? The ashram provides linens, towels, and yoga mats. Please bring your own toiletries. You may also wish to bring an alarm clock, flashlight, umbrella, insect repellent, water bottle, sun hat, and walking shoes. Modest, casual, comfortable clothing is recommended.

Can I bring my cell phone? Yes of course you can bring your cell phone, but please keep it on silence mode while you are in the ashram. Also, please do not bring your cell phone into the meditation hall or any of the classes.

Is there laundry facility available? Most people hand wash their clothes in a bucket. But there is also a dhobi (washerman) who can wash and press your laundry for a nominal fee.

Is there wifi in the ashram? No, the ashram does not have wifi. But there is internet facility in the bookstore/reception area.

What is the weather like? The weather varies with the season. Monsoons are from late June to mid September, with warm to hot temperatures and high humidity. Generally, the weather is very pleasant from October to December with mild days and cool to cold nights. December and January can be quite cold at night and early morning, especially if it rains. February and March are very pleasant, with the temperature warming up in April, and hot in May and June. You can check the internet for specific temperature ranges.

How do I register? Please register in advance for all programs. Our programs require the participant to complete an application form for approval. The online registration form is readily available on the “Registration” page.

How can I reach the ashram? The ashram is located on Virbhadra Road, just below Hotel Ganga Kinare and before you get to the Barrage (see map on Contact Us page). From Delhi you can come to Rishikesh by train, bus, or taxi (see Contact Us page). Flights are available from Delhi to Dehradun, and from Dehradun airport you can take a taxi to Rishikesh.

What time does the ashram close? The front entrance gate to the ashram closes at 9 p.m. If visitors go outside they should return before 9 p.m. The gate to the ghat is locked at 8 p.m. Both gates open at 5 a.m. Office hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

What is a mantra and how do I get one? Mantra is a syllable, a sound, a word or set of words used by spiritual traditions all over the world as a bridge to cross the mire of delusion and go to the other shore of life. Mantra helps make the mind one-pointed, inward, and then finally leads to the center of consciousness. Mantra is imparted by a qualified teacher to a student when the teacher feels that the student is prepared.

Can I get a room with AC or heater? Yes, rooms are available with air conditioning, or with a room heater in the winter. Additional charges for AC or heater is rs.300 (three hundred) per day per room.

Do you provide accommodation for drivers? No.

How do I make payment? Payment can be made upon arrival at the ashram by cash (rupees only), personal rupee checks payable “at par,” QR code, credit/debit card, or wire transfer. We have online facility for Indian credit card/debit card. At the reception desk, we have an international credit card swipe machine. In case of wire transfer, you must inform us of the transfer so we can verify receipt of funds. Please do not wire any funds until your registration has been approved.

Single/Double Occupancy Rates are available. [Note: Single occupancy charges will be applied if there is no one to share the room.]

Cancellation and refund policy: A nonrefundable deposit of rs.500 is needed to confirm your reservation. The remainder amount can be paid upon arrival. In the event of cancellation, your nonrefundable deposit can be transferred to another retreat.
